WELCOME TO VLR 2024!!!!

The Virginia Leadership Retreat is where leaders in the community association industry gather to learn, discuss, and hone their skills. Leaders see reality while keeping their eyes on the horizon. They learn the lessons from the past, and present, and use them to prepare and lead their people, organizations, and clients, into the future. This year's theme of Leadership – Bridging the Gap Between the Past, the Present, and the Future sets the stage for robust dialogue on what it takes for leaders to develop their vision, manage change, and engage the people both inside and outside their organizations to make it all happen.

Join us at VLR2024 for an inspiring experience of education and networking.

This is not your typical fair housing training. It is an experience you don’t want to miss.

This class is not just for common interest community managers who need to obtain credit are eager to learn about federal and state fair housing laws and regulations. It is also an excellent dialogue on common fair housing issues community associations and their managers encounter.

Sure, you may have attended other fair housing courses in the past, but there is always room to build on what you know (or think you know) and hear a new take so you are better equipped to identify and properly respond to a fair housing matter.

Don’t just attend for the credit. Join us to have fun, learn about the laws, discuss common scenarios that communities and their managers may not realize involve fair housing pitfalls, and hear about best practices you and your associations can employ.

Warning: One of the presenters really geeks out over discussing fair housing matters. She cannot help herself (just wait to see how she gets excited about their educational chart).

This course meets the bi-annual requirement for two (2) hours of fair housing training required by 18 VAC 48-50-100 of the Virginia Common Interest Community Manager Regulations for certification as a certified principal or supervisory employee.

10:00 AM - 11:15 AMEducation Session: A Culture of Hubris: Avoiding the Pitfalls of Success
What can management companies learn from the failures of some of our country's most admired and (at one time) successful organizations? While there are many reasons institutions fail, most can be traced back to the long-term decay of the structures and guiding principles that brought them success in the first place, and the source of that decay is almost always arrogance borne from the very successes that made them notable in the first place. This session will use the examples of three organizations to show how a "culture of arrogance" ended up destroying in a short period of time what had taken decades (or more) to be built. While the stakes may not be so high for management companies, the threats remain the same.
